Ongoing Projects

Medskerpedia is a poetry project I started in July 2015. Every day, I write a poem, using an entry from the Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics as my inspiration (either directly or indirectly). I started with “Abcedarian” and will not stop until I finish “Zulu Poetry”. I expect to complete the project sometime this fall (2019).

The Medskerpedia poems themselves are housed in a secret Facebook group, and may only be accessed via a personal invite, lest their security be compromised and literary magazines deem them previously published. Over time, Medskerpedia has evolved into a critique group, with a dozen poets contributing and commenting on each others’ work (with roughly 100 more reading and observing).

If you would like to join the group, or would like to discuss the project, please send me an email at: joshmedsker(at)

Now that the original Medskerpedia is nearing completion, I want to tell you guys about MPedia Mark II!

I will continue to use the Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics as a foundation for my poetry, but I’m adding a new twist. The Oxford English Dictionary. Every day, I will use the “Word of the Day” from the OED in a poem. Then, I will randomly flip to a page in the Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics, to use as my anchor. I may die before reaching the end of the OED. Let’s see what happens. Stay tuned, kids!
